Hurkes Implement’s History Continues…

The Hurkes name has been in the Implement business now for a little over 85 years. It has seen changes in its 85 years here in the eastern South Dakota community, from its first building in 1925 which was J.I. Case Threshing Company. Opened and operated by Grandfather Charlie Hurkes. After World War II, Charlie’s sons Richard and Ed Hurkes took over the Hurkes Implement 1921 business. Richard and Ed continued to farm the family land and run the Implement dealership. To make sure the family legacy continued in the Implement business, Richards sons helped out as soon as they were able.

The first son of Richard Hurkes to join the team was Pat Hurkes in 1972. Soon after that was brothers Joel and Jon Hurkes in the late seventies. Today the three Hurkes boys comprise the third generation of Hurkes men to staff the operation. Their father Richard still appears almost daily at the dealership.

In 1985 the company switched its gears and became authorized dealers of Ford and New Holland machinery. Hurkes Implement is also a fully authorized Bobcat and Kubota dealership. The Hurkes family knows all to well about the changing needs in agriculture, construction, and landscaping and has adapted its products to satisfy the requirements for all customers big or small. Technology has brought many changes to the equipment itself. It is evident Hurkes Implement 1941with the cabless tractor of yesterday,  to the computerized cabs of today.  Not only does technology lend itself to more advanced products, but also availability and profitability of equipment has increased as well. When Hurkes Implement was in its first location everything came in by rail. Today Hurkes Implement sells products through out an 8 state area.
